This week in maths we have been learning to represent and use number bonds to 20. We have been using denies (tens and ones) to help us with our number bonds within 20 and have been focusing on teen numbers.

Last week, we managed to run a whole school cross country event! We kept to our bubbles but it was absolutely amazing to see each other and cheers for our friends across the school. Here are lots of photos for you to enjoy... It may have been a rather grey and gloomy week but Cuckoo Class have continued to work hard. We have been tackling subtraction in Maths and enjoying working on the story of The Gingerbread man in English.
In Music, we have been exploring different rhythms on the percussion instruments and found that we can make some good percussive sounds with different body parts. It was great to come together as a whole school to take part in the Cross Country event on Thursday. We enjoyed cheering for our different houses and felt very proud that we had managed to run such a long way! We have really enjoyed our learning this week, we have been practicing our number formation and creating our own number problems to solve. We have investigated our new number ordering resources and enjoyed matching and exploring numbers in our play. We continue to build our friendships and enjoy sharing and supporting each other, demonstrating that we are Fantastic Fledglings! We have recorded some great Tales Toolkit stories, shown that we are readers by spotting familiar words and logos in the environment, and enjoyed exploring how to be creative in the playdough and loose parts areas. Outside we have been helping keep our environment tidy and enjoying exploring our resources.
This week, Kestrels and Owls have been writing their Non-fiction information texts about the life of Anne Frank. suitable for Year 2 children to read and understand. Our intention is for us to select vocabulary suitable for children to read and understand. Before we started writing, we explored the features of non-fiction texts. We have been using the Chromebooks to publish our texts. Did you know that Anne received her diary for her thirteenth birthday? We have produced some fantastic pieces of work.
Keep up the good work Owls and Kestrels! It has been so lovely to be back in Cuckoo Class this week and to spend time with our wonderful Year 2 pupils. We spent some time learning about why we remember people who died fighting for their country with poppies. We concentrated on the First World War and tried to understand just how many soldiers lost their lives in the battle of the Somme. Year 2 sent a representative to our whole school remembrance service held in the garden and we made a beautiful poppy wreath to display in our classroom.
It was fun not to have to wear school uniform on Friday and we hope we raised lots of money for Children in Need. Our Maths Find out Friday activity was linked to the spots on Pudsey’s bandage and we had fun trying to find as many different combinations as possible using only four colours. We found lots! In computing we have been using Purple Mash to create our own characters to make a animated story book In the words of Finley: 'It was awesome.' Upper Key Stage 2, began their Cojo missions with a WOW afternoon where they were set their first challenge. Children were split into small groups and given a series of Morse code clues which they had to solve in order to gather the information they needed to unlock the secret Cojo box. The children demonstrated fantastic teamwork skills where they successfully solved the clues and opened the box ready for the missions ahead. Well done Owls and Kestrels!
We had a go at using clay to make our own poppies. We thought about people that died and fought for peace during times of war. "Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13.
We have been really busy again this week. We have challenged ourselves to create some transient art with our new resources. We really focused on thinking about what could be represented through the loose parts! We think you'll agree there was some brilliant work here. We have enjoyed putting together our Tales Toolkit stories. Outside we have enjoyed working together to make our own obstacle courses and taking care of our environment. There has been lots of maths work this week. Counting, measuring, matching and investigating number.
In Kingfishers we have been learning about remembrance and why we wear poppies. We found out that there are also purple poppies to remember the animals who served in the war. We decided to make a poppy wreath to be part of our remembrance this year and included lots of purple poppies.
We also used watercolours to paint to some beautiful poppies in our sketchbooks. |
