Owls class have been considering how art can be used to express their opinions through the Activism pathway from Access Art. Your artwork is really inspiring - well done! The children can't wait to share their finished pieces with you at the Whole School Art Exhibition next term!

In Year 2 we've combined our love for the outdoors with our history learning. The Robins feasted on Anglo-Saxon inspired good like real northern warriors. We listened to German and Scandinavian folk music and shared monster stories.
We had a fantastic time! It has been a wonderful week in Fledglings with lots of exciting learning happening. We have been busy in the garden exploring the mud kitchen, water area, bug hunting and gardening. We are preparing the plant beds for flowers and plants next week! Reading is always very popular in Fledglings and this week we took our reading outside. It was lovely to share our phonics skills with our friends. We LOVE maths in Fledglings and this week we have been practising writing our numbers. It is great to see such determination and endurance in their maths this week. Finally, we had a very special visit from two police officers and their shire horses. They came and told us all about their job and how they care for their beautiful horses. Thank you for visiting us! For the second week in a row the Kingfishers have reached over 250 stars the jar. We have been learning some amazing behaviours that will help us with our learning as we progress towards year 2. We can now line up in alphabetical order independently; move from our carpet spaces to our table spaces without talking; settle down and listen really quickly and walk sensibly between our class and worship. As result we have once again enjoyed biscuits and busy time, extra play time and a little TV treat. Great work everyone!
In addition to this, we have been taking the register using the different languages that some of our Kingfishers speak at home; we have practised saying good morning/afternoon in Spanish, Romanian, Greek, Telegu, Malayalam, Arabic and more. This week in English we have been working on writing our own version of our The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch, focusing on neat handwriting, capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. I'm really pleased to say that the Kingfishers have learned a lot since the start of the year as the pictures below will testify. Well done everyone, I'm proud of you. Fledglings have been really enjoying their maths sessions this term and have been exploring doubles. We have also been exploring odd and even numbers. This week we used numicon to help us and we sorted them into odd and even groups. In our English time we have been exploring the book 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch'. This week we recorded ourselves telling differnt parts of the story. Have a look at the videos and see if you can work out what part of the story we are re-telling!
What a wonderful week we've had! We have been working really hard in Maths, reviewing numbers and number bonds from 1 - 20 and practising how we count back using a number track. The improvement was there to see. As if that wasn't exciting enough, we had a visit from the firefighters from Banbury Fire Station. We had loads of fun learning about what its like to work as a firefighter, exploring the fire engine and trying on the safety gear. The best bit though was when they lets us play with their hoses. Best of all though, Kingfishers have settled in to their new classroom and are managing the transition from continuous provision to sitting at tables a chairs beautifully. In fact, they've done so well that they earned over 250 stars in the jar since Tuesday - that means that, this week alone, they got an afternoon snack, extra busy time, outdoor play and spent some of Friday afternoon watching a couple of episodes of Bluey with a bowl of popcorn. I think we can all be very proud of them.
Year 6 have been working hard to improving their skills and knowledge in maths and English. They have been amazing at supporting and encouraging each other. Their focus and determination as been inspiring. This week, it earned them all the head teachers award and, as an extra special bonus, this included 15 additional minutes of break time.
As well as striving to improve, we have also been continuing our film scores project in music. We listened to the music that featured in different clips of Wallace and Gromit to discover the impact it can have to the feel of a scene. In English this week the children have been using figurative language to describe monsters inspired by Beowulf, some of the creations have been really vivid. In Maths we have been working on capacity which means mastering number lines, this will continue into the early part of next week. For PE, the children have been developing dances inspired by Wizards and Witches (we the help of some classic 90s dance music). We have also found time to research Anglo-Saxon Britain and design Anglo-Saxon villages. Our class worship was on the theme of courage, the children decorated miniature hearts which are now kept in the classroom, we also developed a class prayer for courage.
In Year 2, we used our measuring skills to make our own fruit punch this week. Our Maths challenge was to make a 1 litre fruit punch using three different ingredients. We had to think about volume, capacity and remember to use addition as well.
Cheers! Fledglings have had a super start to the summer term. We enjoyed our art day last week were we experimented using different drawing tools to create feathers and birds. We also were surprised with a special parcel which had lots of clues to help us solve the mystery of our new book for this term. We unwrapped the layers one by one to reveal different items. We manged to sovle the mystery and worked out it was 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch' by Rhonda and David Armitage.
We have also enjoyed exploring new activities in our garden and taking part in PE lessons! |
