Fledglings have been really enjoying their maths sessions this term and have been exploring doubles. We have also been exploring odd and even numbers. This week we used numicon to help us and we sorted them into odd and even groups. In our English time we have been exploring the book 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch'. This week we recorded ourselves telling differnt parts of the story. Have a look at the videos and see if you can work out what part of the story we are re-telling!

What a wonderful week we've had! We have been working really hard in Maths, reviewing numbers and number bonds from 1 - 20 and practising how we count back using a number track. The improvement was there to see. As if that wasn't exciting enough, we had a visit from the firefighters from Banbury Fire Station. We had loads of fun learning about what its like to work as a firefighter, exploring the fire engine and trying on the safety gear. The best bit though was when they lets us play with their hoses. Best of all though, Kingfishers have settled in to their new classroom and are managing the transition from continuous provision to sitting at tables a chairs beautifully. In fact, they've done so well that they earned over 250 stars in the jar since Tuesday - that means that, this week alone, they got an afternoon snack, extra busy time, outdoor play and spent some of Friday afternoon watching a couple of episodes of Bluey with a bowl of popcorn. I think we can all be very proud of them.
Year 6 have been working hard to improving their skills and knowledge in maths and English. They have been amazing at supporting and encouraging each other. Their focus and determination as been inspiring. This week, it earned them all the head teachers award and, as an extra special bonus, this included 15 additional minutes of break time.
As well as striving to improve, we have also been continuing our film scores project in music. We listened to the music that featured in different clips of Wallace and Gromit to discover the impact it can have to the feel of a scene. In English this week the children have been using figurative language to describe monsters inspired by Beowulf, some of the creations have been really vivid. In Maths we have been working on capacity which means mastering number lines, this will continue into the early part of next week. For PE, the children have been developing dances inspired by Wizards and Witches (we the help of some classic 90s dance music). We have also found time to research Anglo-Saxon Britain and design Anglo-Saxon villages. Our class worship was on the theme of courage, the children decorated miniature hearts which are now kept in the classroom, we also developed a class prayer for courage.
In Year 2, we used our measuring skills to make our own fruit punch this week. Our Maths challenge was to make a 1 litre fruit punch using three different ingredients. We had to think about volume, capacity and remember to use addition as well.
Cheers! Fledglings have had a super start to the summer term. We enjoyed our art day last week were we experimented using different drawing tools to create feathers and birds. We also were surprised with a special parcel which had lots of clues to help us solve the mystery of our new book for this term. We unwrapped the layers one by one to reveal different items. We manged to sovle the mystery and worked out it was 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch' by Rhonda and David Armitage.
We have also enjoyed exploring new activities in our garden and taking part in PE lessons! Year 3 have enjoyed a busy start to the term. We have visited Anglo-Saxon sites in Oxford, made Anglo-Saxon shields and immersed ourselves into the story of Beowulf. This picture was taken during a dramatic whole class retelling of the story. No children were eaten.
Kingfishers have got off to an amazing start this term. Our art day on Tuesday produced some amazing art work and the improvement between start and finish was clear to see. Not only did we learn about drawing what we could see, we also explored how we could use different media (such as pencil marks, pastels and charcoal) to achieve different looks and textures, but we also looked at how we could create both 2D and 3D art work. The end result was a kingfisher that I think we can all be proud off. We also used our detective skills to figure what this term's book was going to be about. After playing pass the parcel and receiving items such as a telescope, sandwich, packet of crisps, a cat, a seagull and a lighthouse, we were thrilled to discover that we would be reading, and writing about, The Lighthouse keepers lunch.
Owls became police detectives in English this week. They were challenged to find evidence and write a police report. It was a really exciting start to our learning in English this term!
We have been developing our understanding of coding this week. We have been programming the Micro:bits in order to send messages; just like Curiosity (a Mars rover) sends messages back to Earth.
We also followed instructions to help us steer Curiosity through the harsh Martian terrain. It was a lot of fun! |
