The children in Fledglings have focused on creating in the sewing area. Matilde made a dress and belt, adding flowers and feathers to make it really unique. Franek is thinking about the warmer weather and made a wonderful pair of surfer shorts for the beach! The children showed resilience, creativity and determination to create some amazing articles of clothing.

As part of our learning in Co Joe's, we worked in teams to create our own Viking settlements and then tried to persuade others to come and live there. We had limited resources and we are learning to communicate effectively with each other. Have a look at what we created.
Kestrels caught the music bug today. A day filled with signing and performing. We began by performing our own class Viking composition piece to our family as part of our Expo. We composed this piece from scratch, using key vocabulary as our lyrics. We then finished the day off with Mr Wakefield performing our new song, Viking Rock! This was our first lesson learning Viking Rock, have a listen to see how much progress we made! Stay tuned to see the final performance! It was a little chilly but wow, what a performance for KS2 showcasing to our families what we have learnt this term for our Vikings project. We threw ourselves into the Viking role for our call and response performance, answering the many questions with the fascinating facts we have learnt this term. Goldcrests performed their music piece they have learnt this term using their voices and a range of percussion instruments. Kestrels performed music they composed as a class using musical notation. Skylarks and Wrens demonstrated to our visitors their favourite Commando Joes missions completed this term, inspired by the Viking explorer Leif Erickson. Communication and teamwork were key for a successful mission. It was wonderful to welcome family to showcase what we have been learning this term.
This week, the children have loved solving subtraction calculations using counters. There were lots of fantastic discussions where the children were able to identify the whole numbers, along with the 'part' they needed to subtract. Together, we collected some of the calculations the children had solved and we looked closely to see if we could recognise any patterns. To the children's amazement, they were able to identify that the whole number is always the biggest number and the number which appears after the equals symbol, is always the smallest. Well done Kingfishers! We had a fantastic morning at the year 3 and 4 mini football tournament at Wykham Park Academy. The girls team, mixed team and the boys team all played some great football and all showed the sports value of respect to each other as well as the other teams. It was amazing to see the children working as a team and enjoying playing sports against other schools again.
Wow! What a fantastic start to the term. We loved immersing ourselves in our project. We began the week with learning about the life of Anglo-Saxons. Who were they? Where did they come from? Why did they come to England? We explored the life of Anglo-Saxon's in England and their beliefs. We then carried out an enquiry on the Sutton Hood discovery in Anglia. Whose grave was it? Well, we can tell you that!
On Tuesday, we delved into the life of the Vikings. We experienced what life was like to wear Viking armour during invasion and what a Viking burial would encounter. This week, Wrens started the term swimming. WOW! What fantastic swimmers we have already. Future Adam Peaty and Rebecca Adlington's here at St Mary's-we can sense it! Kestrels began their hockey lessons this term by developing the range of hitting skills. To kick start our learning about the Vikings, we were joined by a Viking! We learnt all about who the Vikings were, the types of weapons they used, how they travelled and even learnt about Viking burials. Here are some photos of our fabulously frightening day!
This term we have worked really hard on developing our football skills. We have focused on control, passing, receiving, dribbling and shooting. We been showing real endurance and compassion in our football sessions which has resulted in our skills developing in leaps and bounds. Fantastic work Skylarks and Goldcrests!
Take a look at some our skills in action before we take part in our mini football tournament next week. |
