This week, we have loved learning all about the heart. We took our learning outside and made heart diagrams with chalks and cones. We then took it in turns to explain and show how oxygenated and deoxygenated blood moves through the heart using the new scientific vocabulary we had learnt. Athletics is one of our PE topics this term and this week, we have been learning all about different throwing techniques. When we unpicked the actions that are involved with throwing, we were amazed at the multiple steps that need to take place before the object has even been thrown!

We are enjoying the geography part of our Towpath Tales project and have been finding out about some of the features of The Oxford Canal. We have learned the origin of the word towpath, we know that canals are human features unlike rivers which are physical and we found out that there are 46 locks on this canal. The one in Banbury is lock number 29. We have started reading about the adventures of some fictional canal boats who live at the Thrupp wharf and are planning to design some new boats to join them. We even made paper prototypes in DT. We are working on an annotated picture map of the canal and will be adding to it over the next few weeks. Well done to our Cuckoo's of the day. Here is Maja showing us how its done!
We noticed that some of our paintings looked like Flags and decided to do a bit of research about countries and the different flags that represent them. David created his own coat of arms. Aidan, Franek and Munesu used a book of photographs that shows the age of people from all over the world. They carefully used the information in the book to pinpoint the respective country on the world map. We continue to enjoy using the florist role play. We have extended our learning by making observational paintings of real flower, dissecting flowers to look at their different parts too We loved exploring pastel colour and using them in our paintings too. Transient are remains very popular and Franio enjoyed using our book to recreate some of the pictures. We remain fascinated by nature and all the different patterns and textures we are discovering. Leticia studies a snail that she found and recreated it using the large parts. We have been representing our interests in stories and recording to support our games. Ajwa and Munesu recorded 'start' and 'finish' to help their friends with the obstacle course they have created. What a fantastic week we have had in lower key stage two, we started the week with a strange object appearing in the playground to help us think about how the bear would feel in our new text ‘Bear and the Piano’. In Magpies we have been getting our dancing shoes on and working on movement. In swallows we have enjoyed our third swimming session. On Thursday we had an exciting time being scientist investigating with sound vibrations. We were introduced to the OHP today in Fledglings class. We investigated colour, shape and shadow. It was absolutely fascinating to see what was projected on to the ceiling. It has been another very busy week in Cuckoo Class with all Cuckoos accepting challenges and working hard. Well done to all our Cuckoos of the Day. We started to explore the difference between man-made and physical features in Geography and have sorted pictures as well as exploring our school grounds to look for natural and man-made objects. In RE we explored the concept of forgiveness.
We have loved our stories in Fledglings this week. We have used our phonics knowledge to initial sounds, write key words and sentences and illustrate them too. You can see how hard we are focusing to think about our letter formation. We love using books to develop our knowledge of the world. Zidan found a book about the ages of different people all over the world. He focused on finding out where they came from and locating it on a map. Amirah and Zunanna used books and to tell each other stories, enjoying spending time together. We have been using berries and fruits to make natural paints for observational drawing. There have been lots of opportunities to develop our science knowledge this week, exploring bubbles, levers and gravity! We were fascinated by the bicycle wheels and found ways to incorporate them into some interesting mark making.
What a week! The children have been working on our value of respect this week, especially showing it towards each other. I have seen lots of kindness and consideration both in and out of the classroom. There has also been lots of supportive learning happening! This week we have been creating our own animations using Purple Mash and they are incredible. Not only do they demonstrate lots of skill but they are funny to watch. Here are a small selection for you to see but they are all worthy of being published...
Over the weekend Kingfishers have been getting creative with natural materials and have created some beautiful pieces of artwork. Have a look at our creations... We have had a brilliant week back in Kingfishers and have been busy partitioning and combining numbers in maths. We have continued our learning about the Easter story and what Christians believe happened during Holy Week and how they remember the events through traditions on each of the days. We have also been creative during our busy time and made some fabulous creations.
