We have really enjoyed investigating our natural resources this week. Inspired by our key and linked texts we have begun to make our own transient art people and animals. Look at this fantastic Tales Toolkit story that Layla created in response to out key text 'The Visitors'. We are really enjoying our writing and mark making at the moment. Creating stories, labelling pictures and having a go at recording words, wring menus, recording ingredients in the mud kitchen, completing order forms in the florist and recording sentences independently. We have been using books to identify minibeasts and to inspire our creations. We have looking after our environment and exploring the outdoor resources. Planting seeds and bulbs and potting on our sunflowers! We even looked at creating our own natural paints grating chalks and stones. We continue to explore number and measure both inside and out. Measuring feet, ceating our own games and setting our own challenges. We are really proud of how the children support each other, and demonstrate everyday how they work together to make such a fantastic team.

It is lovely to be back together in Cuckoo Class again and to be able to enjoy the fabulous spring sunshine. We have been joined by a class mascot who is awarded to the “Cuckoo of the Day”- a pupil who has been demonstrating our School Values- at the end of every day. Well done to our first special Cuckoos! We have been digging deeper into the meaning of the main events that took place in Holy Week and enjoyed showing our understanding of this in drama. We are looking forward to starting our new project, Towpath Tales, next week. Paddington and the Aunts have also been very busy wishing the Queen a very happy 95th birthday and reminding us about St George, the patron saint of England.
What a week in Swallows! It has been lovely having everyone back after a two week rest and we have hit the ground running. We have been so busy with our learning that Mrs Smith hasn't managed to take many photos! In English, we have been focusing on how sentences are built and what makes a sentence a sentence! Here are some photos of us rearranging words to change our sentence structure. We have also learnt lots about Hindu deities in order to help us answer the question: Do murtis help Hindus to understand God?
Check back next week to see what we get up to! We have also been busy in the Florist Roleplay. Taking orders, writing tags and cards and wrapping bouquets. We have been outside too. Measuring sticks, ordering natural objects by length, using magnifying glass to look closely at sand, soil and shells. Creating in the mud kitchen, investigating flowers, bulbs and springs. We have loved having our rabbits back. They enjoyed the Dandelion's we fed them. We even got to see one of the baby rabbits who is called Rose.
What a busy week in Kestrels! We have had so much fun and been so successful in our learning. Firstly, we developed our cooperation, teamwork and communication skills by working together and building our very own Roman fort to protect ourselves. Look at what we have built! Would you feel safe and protected in our fort?! We did! Ever used a protractor to help you measure angles in degrees?! We have!!! And we even got to write on the tables during our learning (ssshhh don't tell Mrs Woods!) Scientists in the making! This week we put our lab coats on and investigated how to separate materials based on their scientific properties. We investigated filtering, sieving, magnetism and evaporation based on materials being solids, liquids or gases.
Another busy week for Magpies and Swallows. Drama fun being Mary, showing her feels during the events of Holy Week. Being creative in art producing mood boards to help us remember what happens in Church on Palm Sunday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday. We have continued finding out about states of matter with some great experimenting at home as well as learning about the water cycle in school. In Maths we have been exploring shape and finally we have been keeping fit working on our basketball skills.
The children in Fledglings have been fascinated with shape this week. They have been using the tap-tap game to create shape pictures and the magnetic shapes to explore 2D into 3D shapes. Summer used the 3D shapes to create her own town. Sofia and Dragos explored the best way to stack shapes to create a tower. Ali and Zayan worked together to use shapes to create a dinosaur world with some really interesting features! Ezel was focused at sorting the 2D shapes into groups. The even created his own tally chart so we knew how many of each shape we had! The children have enjoyed investigating the signs of spring. Looking closely at the shape of flowers and plants to create observational drawings and transient art. The children continue to be engaged in the doctors role play. Looking at the shape of letters, numbers and pictures as they expand their skills into optometry! We have been looking at shapes in our creative work too. Studying the shapes of faces, words, letters and characters. Outside the children wanted to create their own camping experience. Creating sleeping bags, tents, a camp fire and even marshmallows to toast! Munesu was in charge of building regulations!
What a busy week in Kestrels class this week so far! Kestrels class are scientists in the making! We have been grouping everyday materials based on their solubility. We loved experimenting and testing the solubility of many different materials: coffee; cardboard; sugar; chalk. Can you predict which materials are soluble and insoluble? We are off to a great start in our shape maths lessons; discussing which shapes are regular and irregular polygons. Can you recognise a regular polygon? Of course you can! We can help you! AND! Not to mention our final performance of our No Place Like ensemble. Isn't it amazing?! Weeks and weeks of hard work and harmonising has really paid off and we are so proud of our achievements! Sit back, put your feet up and enjoy our performance Cuckoo Class has had another exceptionally busy but very enjoyable week. We have come to the end of our work on the census in Maths and are half way through our non-chronological reports about Florence Nightingale. We showed real endurance to complete a 300 piece jigsaw puzzle about the human body- we had been working on it, whenever we had a few moments spare, since the first day of term. It was a great team effort. We have been working on our pencil skills in art, looking at how we can use lines, dots and shading to complete a Florence Nightingale portrait. And then there was Red Nose Day with a special visit from Paddington and both Aunts! A super week. Paddington on Radio Oxford https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p098ghlb Interview starts at 3 hours 43 minutes |
