The children settled back into school. We are really proud of the way they have been busy learning and spending time helping their friends. Once again we have been absolutely amazed at the way our youngest children have found opportunities to display our school values. We were blown away by the kindness, compassion and support they have shown each other. We have been exploring number in Fledglings, using numicon to work out our ages and then looking at 10's and 1's to think about how old the adults are. There has been lots of number work going on at home too. We are really impressed with how your number formation is coming along. We also enjoyed learning to use our new photo studio. We used natural resources to make these amazing creations. We had lots of fun on World Book Day. I am sure you'll agree that the potato characters are fantastic! We were really impressed with Sophie's book review! Kingfisher class continue to enjoy their science project and thinking about how to look after pets.
They are also beginning to look at their different senses. This week Year 3 and 4 have been celebrating World Book Day by discussing and sharing our love for books. In English, we have been looking at Planet Omar: Operation Kind. We have been practicing how to make our own characters interesting to the reader using Zanib Mian's ideas. In History, we have been finding out what homes were like in the Stone Age and in Science we have been making our very own soil shakes!
Finally, we loved seeing you all dressed up as your favourite character on Thursday and seeing all the strange places you read. Mrs Lee and Mrs Smith have been very impressed with the efforts that you all have made to engage with the World Book Day activities this week. Most importantly... WE CAN'T WAIT TO WELCOME YOU BACK TO SCHOOL ON MONDAY!!! Children in Cuckoos, Kingfishers and Fledglings have been living our vision this week. Helping each other with challenges, showing pride in their environment by tidying up after themselves, tying shoelaces, moving heavy resources. We think you'll agree that Harley sums it up brilliantly! Kingfishers have enjoyed their science topic on animals. They have researched, labelled and classified. We have been really impressed with the work you have produced. We have been really pleased with your engagement in reading and writing. Bobby has produced a great poster about staying safe on line. Summer and Aidan have produced some lovely Tales Toolkit stories in time for world book day. Summer has been working on her rhyming too. Patrick and Aidan have been sharing a story together, talking about what they can see and sharing ideas. Matilde has had a go at labeling her picture of Elsa and tried really hard with her letter formation. We continue to investigate numbers and shape. Matilde and Thierry looked at shape in a practical way. Zidan worked on shape in this great video. Munesu has been investigating number bonds using dominoes, numicon and a part whole template. Connor, Matilde and Chloe have been working on capacity in the mud kitchen.
The children in school have enjoyed using the Doctors Role Play. There has been great discussion about illness and who can help us when we are feeling poorly.
We have enjoyed being outside this week. The weather has been wonderful and we have been planting with Miss Forest and looking at signs of spring.
We have been really impressed by the work from lower KS2 this week. It has been so lovely to see your faces in our live sessions and we are getting very excited to welcome you all back into the school soon! Our new theme in worship this week has been courage and there have been some amazing posters made to help us feel inspired by this. We have also been focusing on how to keep safe online in our English lessons. In particular, how we deal with online issues and how to make sure we are keeping our digital footprint as private as possible. In maths, some of us have been looking at fractions and there has been some really excellent work on this. In history, we have been learning about what food the people from The Stone Age ate and some children have even made their very own stewed fruit! Thank you for all your incredible contributions this week and you can see some of this hard work below.
