Last week, Kingfishers were focusing on our school project of 'United'. We explored our oceans and the animals in them; learning about ocean pollution and how plastic materials are harmful to them. Using our WOW tray to see the affects from plastic in our oceans.
Kingfishers also created still life drawings of shells last week, using different mediums such as pastels to create depth and tone to our drawings. We have loved inspecting the shells, the patterns they have and their shapes. Kingfishers have also been investigating number bonds in maths! Learning our number bonds to 10 and 20 has been very exciting, using new ways to understand numbers. Stay tuned for next week's learning here in Kind Kingfishers Class.

Getting activeHarvestIn preparation for our Harvest worship on Monday, we have been thinking about all the things we are thankful for. We wrote these down on strips of paper and used them to create the shape of beautiful pumpkins.
We have been busy getting creative in Fledgings this week. There has been some fantastic creations and we were very excited to open our workshop deck where we made clay sculptures, and painted pictures of the apples from our garden and natural objects that we collected. This week we have continued to explore the United Kingdom and have learnt about the three different flags that were combined together to make the union flag. We also looked at the flags from all the countries that are represented by children in our class. We also enjoyed using collage materials in Art to make individual union flags. In English we have been joining clauses together using ‘and’ and using our phonics to sound out words when trying to write independently. We have just come to the end of our work on place value in Maths and will be starting addition and subtraction next week. It was lovely to be doing PE outside in the autumn sunshine this week but watching the wind and rain was fun too!
It is lovely to be back in school and to welcome new children into Year 2. Cuckoo class has already been busy with lots of indoor and outdoor learning. We enjoyed painting pictures of ourselves standing together as one united class and also made flags for all the different countries which make up the United Kingdom. In Maths, we have been recognising two digit numbers and exploring number sequences up to 100, we have even tried number dictation! In English, we have been responding to a shared text and written about Percy the park keeper and his animal friends uniting together to solve a problem. It was fun to be keeping fit with the Activators on the field on Monday and as a special treat we spent some time in Fledglings garden on Thursday. It was great to be outside in the autumn sunshine enjoying exploring things together.
What an amazing start to the school year! We have only been back for two and a half weeks but we have achieved so much and we are so proud of all the children. They have all settled in well to the new routines and it is often easy to spot our values in action. As part of our English work, we have been reading 'Gulliver's Travels' by Johnathon Swift and during our maths lessons, we have been deepening our understanding of number and place value. We have also been learning about the countries of the British Isles and using the different points on a compass.
We hope you all have a restful weekend and we look forward to seeing you again on Monday. Mrs Lee and Mrs Smith We are very excited to be back at school and to be a Kind Kingfishers, exploring and learning lots of new things this autumn term. We are very happy to be back at school, being back with friends, talking about our new adventure in year 1, and all the projects we are going to embark on!
Since coming back to school we have had lots of exciting new things happen! We have had two rabbits join our little family, we have loved seeing them and researching into how/where they live, what they eat and the different types of rabbits out there! We have a new area to explore being in year 1, as well as still being able to join in with the new fledglings in the outside shared busy garden. We have been getting back into routines and how we can be ‘kind Kingfishers’ to each other and around school too; as well as beginning our intriguing learning this term. Particularly looking at maths this week, we have been investigating number recognition, how numbers are formed, matching a digit to an object amount and exploring addition and subtraction! We have also enjoyed becoming scientists in our new investigation station; exploring how liquids and solids work together, if they dissolve or finding out if another reaction happens. Kingfishers have also been researching and inspecting ocean pollution in a variety of ways, from books like 'Somebody Swallowed Stanley' to new areas in our busy learning room like our new pollution beach box. We are very excited to learn more about this project as our adventure through year 1 begins! Take a look at our fantastic learning… We have had a brilliant week in Fledglings! We have welcomed new nursery children and have shown Koinonia and friendship by making them feel happy and welcome. We have been exploring our new slack rope, experimenting with paint, creating new maths games, exploring the vegetable patch where we found a pumpkin, drawing pictures of our friends and family and making stories using tales toolkit. We met our new school rabbits and voted on their names. We voted for them to be called ‘Spider-man’ and ‘Bunny Twinkle Toes‘. We have enjoyed playing with them and learning how to care for them. We also enjoyed joining in with KS2’s Activator sessions. We watched what they were doing and had a go ourselves in our garden. We are already looking forward to more exploring next week. The children new to Reception, Year 1 and 2 had great fun exploring the environment again. We spent lots of time outside being active and loved seeing our friends and teachers again.
