Fledglings have had a wonderful first week of term. It has been lovely to see so many of last year’s Nursery children step up to Reception, welcoming new friends and helping the younger children settle in. With lots of new faces to both Nursery and Reception, we have focused on learning the school routines and exploring the indoor and outdoor classrooms. We also learnt the story of Noah’s Ark as part of our whole school project this term.

All the children in Skylarks have settled really well in their new class! We have already done some amazing learning and we are all really looking forward to the next stage in our learning journey. Here are a few photos of what we got up to this week.
Today during our worship time the children enjoyed reading to each other and thinking about the way in which we help, support and serve those both younger and older than us. The children loved the opportunity to come together to spend time building relationships and demonstrating our vision.
Skylarks and Goldcrests had a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious time on their trip to London to watch Mary Poppins at the Prince Edward Theatre!
We were very proud teachers as they all demonstrated our school values during the day. Members of the public were impressed with us as well as the theatre who said that St Mary's school were exceptional and had very good manners. We can not wait to update you on all the learning that is going to be happening this term based around Mary Poppins. Watch this space! The children in Fledgling Class have been fascinated with number this week. They have been measuring and comparing the length of worms, counting bugs and working on their number formation. We loved our new Uno game and enjoyed matching patterns, colours and numbers - there was so many opportunities to talk, share and challenge ourselves. Moise worked on his number bonds to 10 using Numicon while Mia and Mayita thought about numeral and quantity using dice patterns. We have been very creative in our block play both inside and out. Car ramps and motorbikes have been the theme this week. We were learning how to combine different shapes appropriately. We have also been challenging ourselves physically - pulling sledges and creating amazing trampoline high jumps!
How can we turn old clothes into new? Kestrels and Wrens enjoyed their WOW project day developing their sewing and textiles skills as part of our Global Citizens project, with a Fast Fashion focus. Ever wondered how to use a sewing machine or hand sewing materials together? What about Heat n Bond to create an applique affect? Don't worry, we can help! We're pro's in the making...
These skills developed will then allow us to design and create our own clothing collection to showcase at our fashion show expo. Look out peeps for your fashion show invitation-you'll receive it soon... The children in Fledglings were really pleased to be back at school. We had lots of fun outside making music and finding out how the configuration of the pipes altered the noises made.
The children in Fledglings class have been using their phonics and mark making skills to create story maps, write their own spells and label pictures this week. They have been very active outside jumping through hoops and working on your gross motor skills.
The windy weather has been perfect for bubbles and we have made our own bubble wands using willow from the tree.
